The Dungeon: Level 9
over 3 years ago – Fri, Oct 09, 2020 at 11:00:27 AM

Hello Heroes,

in Level 8 you were asked to choose among two Boss monsters... and what a close battle that was! The Penkuing fought valiantly, but the ghastly powers of the undead Shopkeeper ultimately prevailed... with just 58% of the votes, you chose the ghost! The Catacombs of Gloomy Ghosts box will now include the additional "Shopkeeper's Ghost" Boss card!

You lost once again, penguins supporters... but chill out! We have another crazy "throwing challenge" social stretch goal for you! Download the print & play board, get your coolest d6 die, and record yourself while you throw a die by performing the Knee Throw and hit the target! Then, post a video of your athletic attack as a comment to this Facebook post! (As long as your knee is involved with the throw, you'll be fine... be inventive!)

If the community will collectively manage to deal a total of at least 40 damage, like a squad of professional boss hunters (for example, 40 people dealing 1 damage each would be enough), we will unlock the "Penkuing" Boss card for the Castle of Frightening Frosts box!

Click on this image and post a video of your atheltic attack in the comments!

In the meantime, the second "throwing challenge stretch goal" was also already completed by a few brave ice-wielding fighters, with at least 20 damage already dealt after hitting a cooking pan by the community... and this means that the additional "Recycled Shield" Item card and the Metal die for the Chambers of Malevolent Magma box have already been unlocked!

And now, are you ready for Level 9 of The Dungeon? Read the story below, choose one of the two options, then submit your votes/comments below this update, NOT on the main campaign page! Votes posted on the main campaign page will be invalid and WON'T BE COUNTED. We repeat: post your votes on THIS UPDATE ONLY!

Defeating our nemesis—again—was not an easy task, at all. That undead scoundrel even learned a couple of new tricks in the afterlife... but we came out of there alive. We just need to hope that the Shopkeeper will not be back again. All right! Next step! Let me check the map... if we go left, we'll find an apparently peaceful pond; if we go right, we'll have to go through a room with a nasty ring of fire... you know what I would choose, but I guess you'll think otherwise.

For Level 9 of The Dungeon, you will have to choose between two different upgraded throwing gadgets[*]! If you will go left, you will unlock an upgraded plastic version of the “Pond” gadget for the Castle of Frightening Frosts box. If you go will go right, instead, you will unlock an upgraded “Ring of Fire” gadget for the Chambers of Malevolent Magma box.

[*] The Pond gadget lays flat on the table, and it requires you to make the die bounce inside its hole before hitting the target. The Ring of Fire gadget, instead, must be hold in your hand, and the die you throw must go through the ring before bouncing on the table and then (hopefully) hitting the target.

Hello Heroes,

the last level of the Dungeon was pretty one-sided: with 72% of the votes, you choose to pay a visit the ancient crypt! The Catacombs of Gloomy Ghosts box will now include the additional "Bone-Bow" Item card and the Bone Chopsticks throwing gadget!

For all of the metal heads and dice lovers among you, we have yet another crazy "throwing challenge" social stretch goal! It's another weird one: download the print & play board, take a cooking pan, and record yourself while you throw a die, make it bounce on the pan, and hit the target! Then, post a video of your metal might as a comment to this Facebook post!

If the community will collectively manage to deal a total of at least 20 damage, like a hardcore metal band (for example, 20 people dealing 1 damage each would be enough), we will unlock the "Recycled Shield" Item card and the Metal die for the Chambers of Malevolent Magma box!

Click on this image and post a video of your metal might in the comments!

In the meantime, the second "throwing challenge stretch goal" was also already completed by a few brave ice-wielding fighters, with at least 20 damage already dealt with an ice cube by the community... and this means that the additional "Ice Cave" Dungeon card and the 4 Stalagmite gadgets for the Castle of Frightening Frosts box have already been unlocked!

What about our next stretch goals, though? Are you ready for Level 8 of The Dungeon? Read the story below, choose one of the two options, then submit your votes/comments below this update, NOT on the main campaign page! Votes posted on the main campaign page will be invalid and WON'T BE COUNTED. We repeat: post your votes on THIS UPDATE ONLY!

That was a pretty uneventful room, wasn't it? I was ready for zombies, skeletons, curses, what have you... and yet, nothing. Just some outstanding gothic statues and this—admittedly awesome—Bone Bow... it seems a bit tricky to use, but I'm sure it will come in handy... and probably soon! According to the map, we'll have to fight some really powerful monsters no matter which path we choose. If we go left, we'll end up in a frosty throne room (ugh...), and the map also says "All Hail the Pengkuing", whatever that means. If we go right, instead... oh my. It seems we'll have to face an old acquaintance we thought we already got rid of...

Level 7 of The Dungeon will see you find your first Bosses! If you will go left, you will unlock the “Pengkuing” Boss card for the Castle of Frightening Frost box. If you go will go right, instead, you will unlock the “Shopkeeper's Ghost” Boss card for the Catacombs of Gloomy Ghosts box. Both these nasty bosses have two special abilities[*]! The veteran heroes among you may also remember about the Shopkeeper, the seemingly merry fellow who sold you all of your fancy equipment in the old Dungeon Fighter core game and expansions who in the end was actually revealed to be an evil sorcerer (and a nasty Boss card)... but it seems that he is back from the grave, and looking for vengeance!

[*]The Pengkuing will have you throw the Frozen template at the beginning of the fight; additionally, you'll have to always perform the Crushing Throw at each round of the fight. The Shopkeeper's Ghost, instead, will have you use the Flying Stand (which slightly lifts the target board from the table) and it has the "Tricky" ability, making all throws hitting the "1" area of the target a miss, instead of a hit with 1 damage!

Hello Heroes,

by reading your comments, it seems that the two choices for Level 6 were both very popular! It was a tough battle, but in the end the gooey path won the contest with 63% of the votes! The Labyrinth of Sinister Storms box will now include the additional "Oozy Cave" Dungeon card and the rubber Oozy die!

But don't fret, stalagmites supporters! You'll have a second chance with a new "throwing challenge" social stretch goal! It's a weird one: download the print & play board, take a real ice cube, and record yourself while you throw it to hit the target! Then, post a video of your epic gesture as a comment to this Facebook post!

If the community will collectively manage to deal a total of at least 20 damage, like a seasoned band of adventurers (for example, 20 people dealing 1 damage each would be enough), we will unlock the "Ice Cave" Dungeon card and the 4 Stalagmite gadgets for the Castle of Frightening Frosts box!

Click on this image and post a video of your frosty fight in the comments!

In other news, our first "throwing challenge stretch goal" went quite well, with at least 20 damage already dealt by the community... and this means that the additional "Firewall" Dungeon card and the upgraded Firewall gadget for the Chambers of Malevolent Magma box have already been unlocked! Well done, heroes! But that's not all! We also finally reached our other social stretch goal of 250 retweets on this Twitter post, meaning that the “Floor Is Lava” Dungeon card and the Lava Pad for the Chambers of Malevolent Magma box have also been unlocked!

A lot of new cool stuff was unlocked today! Isn't that a great feeling? But now, it's time to move on! Are you ready for Level 7 of The Dungeon? Read the story below, choose one of the two options, then submit your votes/comments below this update, NOT on the main campaign page! Votes posted on the main campaign page will be invalid and WON'T BE COUNTED. We repeat: post your votes on THIS UPDATE ONLY!

That Oozy Cave we went to? A baaaaaad place. Turns out those cubic gooey things can digest rocks and heroes alike, just like candy. We barely came out of there alive. We could really use one of your mass-healing charms, Lady Mary, would you be so kind?

[a few minutes later]

Thanks princess. Let me take a look at our trusty map while you try to regrow Brockenstock's beard... we came from there... ah ah... so then we could go... lovely. More treasure rooms ahead, heroes! There's an armory to the left (and wierdly, the map has a metal cube drawn next to it); there's also an ancient crypt down there, to the right (and the map suggests we could find bows and arrows there).

Here's your choice for Level 7 of The Dungeon! If you will go left, you will unlock the “Recycled Shield” Item card and the Metal die for the Chambers of Malevolent Magma box. If you go will go right, instead, you will unlock the “Bone Bow” Item card and the Bone Chopsticks throwing gadget for the Catacombs of Gloomy Ghosts box. Both these items will allow you to use a special component[*] and deal bonus damage if you hit the target.

[*]The Recycled Shield allows you to throw the heavier Metal die, while the Bone-Bow will allow you to use the Bone Chopsticks to perform the "Chopsticks throw" (basically, you need to pick the die you want to throw with the Bone Chopsticks and use them to throw the die)!

The Dungeon: Level 6
over 3 years ago – Tue, Oct 06, 2020 at 03:52:25 AM

Hello Heroes,

there really was no competition this time: with 83% of the votes, you chose the tangled forest! The Labyrinth of Sinister Stroms box will now include the additional "Tangled Forest" Dungeon card, which will force you to use the Gate Throw gagdet (now upgraded to plastic) for the whole duration of the fight.

But fear not, firewall supporters! You'll have a second chance as usual, but we would like to try a new kind of social stretch goal this time. What about trying one of Dungeon Fighter's signature throwing challenges? Download this print & play board, cut the provided DIY firewall, grab your favorite d6 die, and record yourself while you perform the Firewall throw to hit the target! Then, post a video of your epic gesture as a comment to this Facebook post!

If the community will collectively manage to deal a total of at least 20 damage, like a real party of Heroes (for example, 20 people dealing 1 damage each would be enough), we will unlock the "Firewall" Dungeon card and the upgraded Firewall gadget for the Chambers of Malevolent Magma box!

Click on this image and post a video of your epic gesture in the comments!

Over the weekend, you also already helped us to reach (and surpass) 6200 followers on our Instagram profile, unlocking the additional "The Iceberg Mob" Monster card for the Castle of Frightening Frosts box, and we're now just some 25 retweets away from reaching our other social stretch goal of 250 retweets on this Twitter post that will unlock the “Floor Is Lava” Dungeon card and the Lava Pad for the Chambers of Malevolent Magma box! We're almost there!

Click on this image to go straight to the Twitter post and share it with your friends!

And now, it's time for another chapter of The Dungeon! Are you ready for Level 6? Read the story below, choose one of the two options, then submit your votes/comments below this update, NOT on the main campaign page! Votes posted on the main campaign page will be invalid and WON'T BE COUNTED. We repeat: post your votes on THIS UPDATE ONLY!

Ok, ok, I got it! I'm the only one who likes fire here! Sheesh... I just wanted to go to a warm place, for a change. I'll give it to you, the tangled forest was not that cold... lots of brambles and sharp branches, though. I could have really done without all these scratches and bruises. Sir Moo, a favor, please?

[a few minutes later]

Thanks for the healing blessing, Sir Moo, now I feel much better. Ok gang, time to move on. Let me check the map... we're here so... uh uh... mmm mmm... ok. Then, if we go left... oh, there's a place called the "Oozy Cave"! I guess we'll find a lot of soft, squishy things there. What could go wrong? If we go right, instead... oh. Of course. More ice. I think I hate my job.

Here's your choice for Level 6 of The Dungeon! If you will go left, you will unlock the “Oozy Cave” Dungeon card and the Ooze die (a super-bouncy special die made with rubber) for the Labyrinth of Sinister Storms box. If you go will go right, instead, you will unlock the “Ice Cave” Dungeon card and 4x Stalagmite gadgets[*] for the Castle of Frightening Frosts box.

[*] Stalagmites must be placed inside the holes of the target board at the beginning of the fight, and they can be both a good thing and a bad thing for you. On one side, you won't risk to land your dice in the holes for this fight, but on the other hand, you'll have to deal with these 3D obstacles who may prevent you from reaching the inner parts of the target. A new kind of challenge!

Introducing a new pledge level... the Collector Pledge!
over 3 years ago – Tue, Oct 06, 2020 at 03:37:28 AM

Hello Heroes,

we always listen to the feedback of our backers during all of our campaigns. This has been the case for Dungeon Fighter, too. Very early on, it became clear that there was a very popular request coming from the community: a "big box" capable of holding all of the components of the 4 Dungeon Fighter standalone boxes into a single, "deluxe" package.

We didn't include this from the beginning of the campaign because it's a deceptively expensive thing to produce (especially because this kind of "deluxe editions" are often only chosen by a limited amount of backers, which makes it economically unfeasible to produce... but once you offer it, you must produce it, no matter what, and that felt as a risk we were not willing to take at first).

However, given the huge popularity that this request proved to have among our backers, we took a few days to make our calculations and investigate the actual feasibility of such a "deluxe edition", with plenty more hindsight about the desires of the community. We are now finally ready to announce that... we found a way to make it happen!

We're introducing a whole new pledge level... the Collector Pledge! For 155€ (about $182), this new pledge will get you all of the components from the 4 Dungeon Fighter boxes inside a single package, a premium magnetically sealed box (it's almost like a treasure chest)! Backers choosing this new pledge level will receive this "big box" with all of the unique components of the 4 Dungeon Fighter versions already inside, straight out of the factory. It will come with custom plastic trays specifically engineered for this box, allowing to hold all of the game components while saving as much space as possible, and it will also include no redundant game parts (so only 1 set of coins, life counters, Scar tokens, and a special life tracker with custom art specific for this box). The Collector pledge also includes 1 Kickstarter-exclusive metal Leader token (of course), but that's not all! It also comes with 1 Metal Upgrade pack, 1 Silicon Trays pack, and 1 Embroidered Cloth Bags pack! A true deluxe edition!

One final note. It is a pleasure for us to satisfy the requests of our community, but we would like to make one thing very clear: we are doing this for the many, many enthusiast backers who have been kindly and constructively expressing their desires and suggestions in the comments (and we would like to point out that this has been the vast majority of people who have been asking for a big box ever since the early stages of this campaign).

We are definitely NOT doing this for the few people who have been rude and harsh, who have been trying to force our hand by suggesting to boycott our campaign on some social media streams and discussion forums, or sending borderline threatening private messages to us. It was just a handful of people, luckily, but to them all we would like to say, very clearly: threats are not the way to make us change our plans. Constructive criticism, kind requests, and the actual economical feasibility of such proposals are the only things we take into account in these cases. This is not your victory, and you should reconsider your priorities in life.

Until next time!

Sincerely,

the Horrible team
